A ship is moored on the left as a rowboat approaches the shore, where several figures are gathered near the entrance to a fortified city. The city may be identifiable by the presence of a church bell tower rising just beyond its walls. Atop the bastion, a flag bearing the lion of Saint Mark flutters in the wind.
